Supplier Development & New Supplier Programmes

In-depth programmes, aimed at assisting Scottish food and drink companies develop sustainable trading partnerships with key retailer and foodservice organisations.

The programmes are typically delivered over several months and include a series of detailed briefings, skills workshops, one-to-one mentoring sessions and meetings with key personnel across the buyer organisation.

Scotland Food & Drink has recently completed a tailored programme in partnership with ASDA Stores Ltd., aimed at developing the commercial capabilities of suppliers and growing their sales with the retailer.  Companies trading with ASDA on either a local, regional and national level were selected for the ASDA Supplier Development Programme, including:  Border Biscuits, J & I Smith, Mathieson's, MacIntosh of Glendaveny, Porelli, Sangs, Shetland Products, Simon Howie, Speyside Specialities and VC2 Brands.

The ASDA Supplier Development Programme was designed to improve business's understanding of the retailer and their trading requirements, develop suppliers understanding of the need for a market led/consumer focused approach to doing business with ASDA and to gain an understanding of the retailers technical requirements.  Good practice marketing, account management, effective negotiating, joint business planning and category management were an integral part of the development programme.

The ASDA Supplier Development Programme was deemed a huge success by all involved and not only has each of the participating business increased their knowledge of the retailer and consolidated their relationships with the trading team, but also succeeded in gaining distribution, launching new products and ultimately delivering a significant increase to their sales - some by up to 330%!

Scotland Food & Drinks Supplier Development Programme is supported with financial assistance from the Scottish Government.
