There is a host of organisations able to offer free advice and
support to food and drink businesses in Scotland to help them grow
sustainably. Below are links to help you find the support that you
need, but please feel free to call our Sustainability Project
Manager if you would like further guidance.
Environmental
• Business Gateway offer Information and Online
Tools on Legislation, Compliance, Energy, Transport, Water and
Waste.
• Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE), provide
sustainability advice to its account managed companies.
Through their account managers and approved contractors HIE also
offer on-going support on implementation and training
workshops.
• Scottish Enterprise (SE), provides an extensive
range of sustainability services to help companies achieve
environmental improvements, resource efficiency, and business
benefits including: Ongoing support from sustainable development
specialists, support with project implementation (both financially
and directly from specialists) and training workshops.
• Zero Waste Scotland are able to provide
Specialist Advice, Training, Information, Online Tools on
Sustainable Supply Chains, Environmental Management Systems,
Resource Efficiency (including waste and water) as well as
Financial Assistance for innovative waste reduction projects.
• Energy Saving Trust offer Information,
Specialist Advice and On-site Support for small to medium size
businesses on energy (Lighting, Heating, Efficiency, Renewables).
They also offer Information, Specialist Advice and Onsite support
to any size business regarding transportation.
• SEPA offer Information and Specialist Advice on
Compliance, Legislation and Updates in regards to environmental
regulation.
• Scottish Food and Drink Federation (SFDF) the
SFDF website has useful information and case studies regarding
their Five Fold environmental ambition and provides advice for the
industry.
• Carbon Trust provide Information, Specialist
Advice and Onsite Support in regards to energy (Lighting, Heating,
Efficiency, Renewables) for businesses.
• IGD provide information on sustainability
topics across the supply chain on their website, they also provide
case studies on what other companies in the food and drink industry
are doing.
Economic
• The Scottish Agricultural Collage (SAC) are able to
offer food and agricultural businesses strategy development and
full supply chain analysis.
• SAOS offer specialist advice in supply chain
business to business improvement and collaborative and co-operative
approaches to sustainability.
• Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE), provide
sustainability advice to its account managed companies.

• The Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service
(SMAS), provide expert advice, one-to-one support, training and
events for manufacturing businesses of all sizes throughout
Scotland. The practitioner team consists entirely of hands-on
experts in process improvement, lean manufacturing, innovation and
allied disciplines.
• QMS are all able to offer Specialist Advice to
Red Meat companies.
Ethical
• Scottish Business in the Community, offer
businesses of any size advice and guidance on Corporate Social
Responsibility.
