Breeding, registration, development and marketing of new and novel varieties of potatoes, leading to the production and sales of ( primarily ) seed potatoes of these new varieties. Sales are well diversified between UK and overseas markets.
Currently have 17 varieties registered on UK National List. These vary from Nadine, Harmony and Osprey, which are among the top commercial varieties in the UK, to Kestrel, Mimi and Pixie for high quality niches. Winston, Argos and Valor are currently all expanding for Mediterranean production. Valor and Verity are ideal and expanding in Organic production systems. Newly developed products for extreme high quality use ( S.phureja and Pink Fir Apple hybrids ) are currently undergoing registration. Seed potato production is carried out to the highest audited standards ( Safe Havens, Assured Produce and Natures Choice members ). In 2005, 16000 tonnes of seed potatoes were produced and marketed. Some specialised ware potato production of our own varieties is also carried out. {Examples of Key Customers and/or Key Wholesalers} Caithness Potatoes Ltd varieties can be found in all major multiples. Seed sales are made to growers/groups supplying these chains as well as many independent producers. Export sales are all done direct with country of destination importers, rather than UK based exporters.
