Bruichladdich single malt whisky distillery situated on Islay produces Scotland's purest whisky. Known as 'The sophisticated Islay' for its subtle, complex flavours, Bruichladdich is refined, floral and fruity rather than medicinal.
Bruichladdich is hand-made using the original Victorian equipment, naturally bottled, uniquely with Islay Spring Water, without chill-filtration or artificial colouring. 'Distillery of the Year' twice - 2001 and 2003.
Bruichladdich ('Brook-Laddie' the Gaelic for 'Raised Beach') is on the Island of Islay, on Scotland's wild west coast. The distillery was bought by private investors in December 2000 from the American firm Jim Beam, having been closed since 1994. Following extensive renovation and maintenance the distillery recommenced distilling 29th May 2001 using the original Victorian features and equipment.
The first bottlings of 'The Laddie' were launched in September 2001, since then the company has been awarded Distillery of the Year in 2001 and 2003, Distiller the Year (Jim McEwan) 2004, and Innovator of the Year 2004 and many awards for its malts. Different 'cuvées' are made to suit different moods and usages. In 2004 we began distilling organic Islay Single Malt.
Bruichladdich is the only independent Islay distillery, producing Scotland's purest single malt whisky, hand-made, naturally bottled - uniquely with pure Islay Spring Water from 1800 Million year old rocks, without the industrial processes of chill- filtration or artificially colouring. Known as 'The Sophisticated Islay' for its subtle, complex flavours, 400,000 litres are distilled annually from Organic and locally grown Scottish barley. Even though coming from Islay, Bruichladdich is not a medicinal malt, being refined, floral and fruity.
