More Awards for WildWaters Scottish Salmon

As reported by Scotland Food & Drink yesterday, the the prestigious Crown Estate Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards were presented last week.

Grieg Seafood Hjaltland won the Business Development Award for its innovative WildWaters Scottish Salmon range has scooped yet another major accolade.

In addition, Shetland’s largest salmon producer was a finalist in the Best Finfish Farm Award category.

The Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards recognise the best of the best in the industry and highlight the achievements of Scotland’s marine aquaculture businesses.

In the Business Development Award category, judges were looking to reward the development of an aquaculture product, farming or business practice that made a significant positive contribution to the economic sustainability of the business, in existing markets or a new market.

Commenting on the win, managing director of Grieg Seafood Hjaltland UK Ltd, Michael Stark, said: "We are absolutely delighted to win the Business Development Award, a great endorsement of the quality of our inventive and special WildWaters value-added product range.

"Our uniquely created smoked and marinated scottish salmon products – all varieties developed in-house – quickly proved to be a big hit with customers when first launched in the marketplace.

"Our team worked hard to establish its initial success and continue to put a great deal of effort into building our customer base (now in 13 countries across Europe, the Far East, the US and Canada), retaining high standards and ultimately helping our business to grow."

The company was also announced as finalist in the Best Finfish Farm Award for its West of Burwick farm. Here, judges were evaluating production performance and sustainable practices in aspects of: animal health and welfare, containment and predation control, feed/growth management, environmental impact mitigation, product quality, site appearance and waste management.

Evidence of continuous improvement, local stakeholder relations and contribution to the business objectives of the company were also considered.

WildWaters recently won the Best Retail Product award - Fish and Seafood - at the 2011 Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards while the range and business concept won the New Business Award at the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards 2011.
