Salmon Company's Award 'Milestone in Development'

The Scottish Salmon Company’s chief executive, Bill Hazeldean, has said winning the Best Marine Aquaculture Company at the Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards is a milestone in the development of the young company.

The award is now going on a tour round the company’s 40 sites throughout the west coast and Western Isles.

The judging panel awarded top prize to The Scottish Salmon Company for all-round excellence, commending the company for its sustainable practice, business performance, investment, staff management practices and local community involvement.

In addition, The Scottish Salmon Company was shortlisted for Farm Manager of the Year, the Innovation Award and the Best Finfish Farm Award.

Bill Hazeldean said: "As we go towards our first birthday, this is a fantastic and noteworthy milestone in our development.

"Formed a year ago, The Scottish Salmon Company’s aim was to bring together the ethos, values and product that we as a company felt was important. Winning this award marks the fact we have achieved what we set out to do in the initial stages and this gives us a solid foundation to build upon.

"Our teams across our farming and production sites are the core of our business and integral in our success at the awards so we want to share the award with them."

The Scottish Salmon Company is a principal player in the Scottish aquaculture industry, responsible for approximately 20% of Scottish salmon production. It operates from around 40 sites and employs around 300 people on the west coast of Scotland and Western Isles.

It has recently opened Marybank processing plant in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis - one of only a few facilities to produce high-quality, pre-rigour pin-bone-out fillets. Operational since late 2010, its filleting operation is now running at more than 50% of capacity as the company endeavours to develop new sites to realise its full potential.

The Scottish Salmon Company suppliers superior quality Scottish salmon to local and international markets. It currently produces more than 20,000 tonnes per year, over 20% of the total Scottish salmon production.

Engaged in all stages of the value chain of farming Scottish salmon, from smolt production to harvesting, processing and sales in Scotland, it  owns over 40 sites in the Hebrides and west coast of Scotland along with two processing plants. The head office is located in Edinburgh.
