The group contracted Seafood Scotland to organise a promotional event featuring an information point, plus cookery demonstration and seafood sampling area.

Large graphic panels showing industry and seafood products at their best welcomed visitors to the stand, while a seated area allowed them to enjoy chef Eadie Manson performing in a double act with Scottish fishermen.

“Eadie talked to the audience about cooking techniques, and we told them why Scottish seafood is a good, sustainable choice. This proved to be a winning combination,” explained SFPG chairman George West.

The event organisers estimate that around 300,000 people visited the Tall Ships during the weekend, many of whom stopped by to sample freshly prepared Scottish seafood bites.

Visitors enjoyed fresh and smoked haddock, Scottish langoustines, crab, squid, hake and whiting. Cullen skink proved to be dish of the day.

George added: “Our group was set up by an enthusiastic band of fishermen who want to improve the public’s perception of Scottish seafood, encourage increased consumption, and put across the positive aspects of our work.

“We are funding a number of projects that will be delivered by Seafood Scotland to help achieve these aims.

“Our main aim is to widen appreciation of the efforts the Scottish fishing industry is undertaking to ensure that seafood stocks remain sustainable for future generations to harvest.

“The Tall Ships event enabled us to reach a wide audience with this message, and was an enjoyable stage on which to perform.”
