To celebrate the start of the partnership, Brown presented a cheque for £1,500 to the charity. On the day, Brown also helped to present cheques to three charities, who received recent fundraising support from the store. £5,500 was donated on the day in total.

To celebrate the start of the store's partnership with Alzheimer's Scotland, a candy stall was set up at the front of store, with all money raised going to the charity, who provide care and support to people who suffer from Dementia.

Brown then went onto present three cheques to local charities who received fundraising support from the store. He presented £2,500 to 'Chas', who provide the only hospice service in Scotland for Children and young people with life-shortening illnesses. £750 was also presented to 'Sands', who provide support to families who have suffered the loss of a baby. And Brown also presented £750 to 'Autism Scotland', who provide support to people who suffer from Autism. The money was raised through a number of charity collections in-store for each of the charities.

Representatives from all four charities were in attendance on the day. Brown also met colleagues from the store and found out about the store's work in the local community. This included the Active Kids programme, which has helped to donate sports, cooking and gardening equipment to schools, clubs and nurseries across Kirkcaldy.

Gordon Brown said: "I was delighted to meet colleagues from Sainsbury's Kirkcaldy and I'd to thank them for their work in supporting local charities. I was also delighted to speak to the charities and hear the appreciation that they had for the fundraising work which colleagues at Sainsbury's Kirkcaldy take part in".

Sainsbury's Kirkcaldy Store Manager Sam Grogan added: "It was great for our colleagues to meet Gordon Brown, and it was great for us to have the opportunity of telling him how active we are in the local community. We'd like to say thank-you to Gordon for helping make the day extra special for the local charities we've supported, and we look forward to progressing our work with our new local charity partner, Alzheimer's Scotland, over the next year".
