Stewart Tower is taking part in the Scottish Government’s ‘Farming for a Better Climate’ (FFBC) project. Supported by SAC (Scottish Agricultural College), FFBC is exploring ways of reducing farming’s impact on climate change.

On 7 August, visitors will be able to tour Stewart Tower see for themselves how the farm is reducing the levels of harmful greenhouse gases produced as  grows its crops, feeds and milks its cows and produces its renowned ice-cream. Some of these actions can be adopted on a smaller scale in people’s own homes and gardens. Stewart Tower owners Neil and Linsey Butler and SAC environmental experts will pass on a variety of tips to visitors.

SAC’s Climate Change Manager Rebecca Audsley, who oversees FFBC, said: “The Scottish Government has set a target to reduce Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. This will mean we will all have a part to play in achieving this.

“We are inviting people along to Stewart Tower to find out more about what Scottish farms are doing to help tackle climate change. But we will also be showing people how some simple steps they can take at home can all add up to help make a positive difference to the environment.”

Farmer Neil Butler said: “We are looking forward to inviting people on to the farm to show them what we are doing.  We are pleased to be involved in the FFBC project and still learning about how some of the small positive changes on a farm to farm basis could add up to cumulative benefits across Scotland.”

SAC Farm Facilitator for Stewart Tower, Sinclair Simpson said: “The event will be fun, you might learn something and it will give the opportunity for other local farmers at the event to meet the public who are their clients.”

In addition to the opportunity to tour the farm, there will be a competition on the day and a free ice cream for every visitor at the end of the walk.

The event is free but visitors are asked to book in advance with the SAC Perth Office on 01738 63 66 11 to be allocated to a tour time.
