The first two characters debuting the new products are Scottiegg, a sliced Scotch egg represented by a fearsome William Wallace-type warrior and Scottichick, a chicken kitted out in full Scottish regalia for the sliced chicken and haggis product.
Scottiegg contains slices of golden crumb-coated, egg-filled, seasoned sausage meat, giving a new dynamic and versatility to the traditional Scotch egg, particularly opening it up as a sandwich filling option rather than just as an accompaniment.
Meanwhile, Scottichick was inspired by the popular dish Chicken Barmoral as a Scottish alternative to chicken and stuffing products. Scottichick is formed cooked and sliced chicken with a spicy haggis centre.
Scotti products retail at £1.29 per pack but are on promotion in Sainsbury’s for the next three weeks at £1. They have a wide target demographic but will probably appeal most to families.
Browns Food Group, which has grown from humble beginnings as a small family butcher's shop in Biggar in 1885, now supplies a vast range of chilled and frozen foods, including delicatessen products, pre-sliced cooked meats under the Tarbert Fine Foods brand, smoked salmon and convenience foods which are as unique and distinctive today as they were in 1885.
The company is still a family-run business, now based in Kirkconnel in the Borders.
