The brand – carefully crafted at the Campbeltown Creamery – is made using 100% Scottish milk supplied by 38 farmers on the Kintyre peninsula and the Isle of Gigha.
Creamery manager Chris Wareham is thrilled with the success: “We are absolutely delighted that our Mull of Kintyre cheddar is once again officially the Best Scottish Cheese. We’ve always known we made the best cheese in Scotland and now it’s official, yet again.
“Our talented cheese makers are creating superb quality Cheddar with the finest quality milk supplied by local dairy farms. Cheese making is both a science and an art and we are delighted to have beaten the competition. The 27 strong creamery team are absolutely delighted at our success,” said Chris.
The brand continues to go from strength to strength attracting nationwide appeal, with listings in all of the major retailers.
Mull of Kintyre Cheddar made at the Campbeltown Creamery is owned by First Milk, the largest dairy farmer co-operative in the UK, which has members’ farms stretching from Central Scotland to the South of England and from West Wales to East Anglia. The business handles approximately 1.6 billion litres of milk per annum from 2500 producers, which is used in the liquid and dairy ingredients markets, as well as to supply First Milk’s four creameries and dairy.
