Only six establishments in the whole of Aberdeenshire hold two or more AA Rosettes and around just 100 Scotland-wide.

Head chef Peter Conlin, who has put Meldrum House on the map for its locally sourced cuisine, commented: "Everyone in the kitchen is delighted to have had our efforts acknowledged in this way. Every AA rosette is hard earned and to have achieved two is a real coup."

Peter Walker, general manager at Meldrum House, located at Oldmeldrum, said: "I am really pleased for Peter and his team and also for the hotel.

"Our aim is to offer some of the best food in Aberdeenshire through a seasonal menu that features lots of locally sourced produce. This new accolade serves to reinforce Meldrum’s position amongst the finest eateries in the region."

The AA assessor, who dines incognito, enjoyed a meal of duo of rabbit to start, followed by fillet of North Sea cod, oxtail and wild mushroom, and Valrhona chocolate brownie souffle, orange sorbet and chocolate sauce to finish during the visit to Meldrum House.

AA rosettes, along with Michelin stars, are regarded as among the most prestigious food awards that UK hotels and restaurants can receive.

Peter Walker added: "We have an ambitious and committed team in place at Meldrum House and are working together to grow the hotel’s reputation for food, service, atmosphere and design.

"Over the coming months we are continuing with our investment programme which will include the creation of two new luxury bedroom suites from what was the hotel’s Lairds Apartment.

"We also benefit from stunning grounds and a championship standard golf course, making Meldrum House a really amazing place to visit."

Since undergoing a recent £2.5 million investment programme, Meldrum House has gained a host of new accolades including AA/VisitScotland 4 star accreditation, Scottish Hotel Awards 2011 (Wedding Hotel of the Year and Design Gold Medal), an Eat Scotland Silver Award, and Grampian Restaurant of the Year 2011.
