Jim McLaren, chairman of Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), commented that as an active participant in the UK Export Certification Partnership (ECP), the red meat industry body is fully involved with all efforts being made to lift the remaining export restrictions to Russia.

He said: "If successful, Scotland’s red meat producers and processors could benefit from a trade worth more than £100 million to the UK market.

"We also believe there is scope for developing the premium and commodity markets in North America and China.

"QMS has been working for some time on our own export review which includes third countries such as Russia, and this is currently being considered by our Board with the launch planned to take place in October at the leading Cologne food fair, Anuga."
