Some 350 chefs gathered at Braehead Foods in Kilmarnock earlier this month to swap notes, watch cookery demonstrations and sample suppliers’ produce - and enter the game specialist's inaugural Game Chef of the Year competition.

Demonstrations, led by head chef Phil Lewis, were held in the adjoining Cook School Scotland.

Braehead managing director Craig Stevenson said: "This is a great way for us to show our support for our suppliers and customers.

"It allows our chef customers to scrutinise our policies and hygiene here at Braehead.

Suppliers, too, travelled from far and wide to show their produce, including from France and Belgium. Among Scottish exhibitors were Barwheys Dairy, Taste of Arran, Highland Game and Olefeira Oils.

Closing date for entries is November 30th 2011 and finalists will be invited to cook in front of the judges at The Cook School Scotland on January 30th 2012. Call 01563 550008 for further details on the competition.
