James Withers, chief executive of industry leadership organisation Scotland Food & Drink, commented: "This is a significant and hugely welcome investment from Milk Link into what is one of our food and drink industry’s key sectors.

"Not only will it have a positive impact on the local economy and Scottish farmers, it also highlights the growing demand for quality Scottish products at home and abroad.

"Capital investment will allow Milk Link to increase its capacity and, crucially, enhance its global competitiveness by ensuring it is at the forefront of dairy processing.

"Ambitious and innovative companies like Milk Link will play a vital role in meeting our target of growing the industry to £12.5 billion and we look forward to supporting them."

The news has also been well received by SAOS, Scotland’s agricultural co-op organisation. James Graham, chief executive of SAOS, said: "This is the strongest possible endorsement of a co-operative approach to farmers investing in their own facilities to add value to their milk.

"This must be the future preferred model for Scotland’s dairy farmers through which they derive a fair market value for their milk."
