Reporting directly to chief executive Bill Hazeldean, Mr Leggett will be responsible for the leading fish farming company’s sales, marketing and communications.

The appointment is to support The Scottish Salmon Company’s plans to develop a strong, growing and sustainable business.

Bill Hazeldean said: "Ronnie is an experienced commercial director in the Scottish food and drink sector and this appointment supports our strategic growth plans."

The restructuring of The Scottish Salmon Company’s sales, marketing and communications department created a need for this role.

Responsible for a team of nine, Mr Leggett joins The Scottish Salmon Company from Macphie of Glenbervie, the UK’s leading independent food ingredients manufacturer which he joined in 2004 as group commercial director.

He is a member of the Council of the Marketing Society Scotland, vice-chair of the Scottish Food and Drink Federation, sits on the sustainability and competitiveness steering groups of the Food and Drink Federation and is a member the Grampian Food Forum.

The Scottish Salmon Company produces over 20,000 tonnes of salmon each year and is one of the country’s leading salmon farming businesses, employing over 350 people and operational from over 40 sites.

The Edinburgh-headquartered company is engaged in all stages of the value chain of farming Scottish salmon, from smolt production to harvesting, processing and sales, in Scotland. It owns 40 sites on the Hebrides and west coast of Scotland including two processing plants.

Earlier this year, the company was named Best Marine Aquaculture Company 2011 at the Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards, sponsored by The Crown Estates. It is listed on Oslo Bors stock exchange.
