The 40-minute tasting kicks off at 20:00 EST (10:00 GMT) and will be hosted by distillery manager, John Campbell and master blender, Robert Hicks.

They will be joined by two guests, Lin Johnston, a descendant of Alexander Johnston who founded Laphroaig with his brother in 1815, and the author, Rebecca Varidel.

The tasting will include Laphroaig Quarter Cask, Laphroaig Triple Wood, Laphroaig Cáirdeas 30 Year Old and a rare Laphroaig 10 Year Old, which was distilled in the 1950s.

Participants from around the globe, who will include Friends of Laphroaig and anyone with an interest in the iconic Islay malt, will be able to post questions to the panel throughout the broadcast.

In true Australian style, a barbecue will be served but in a unique twist it will feature the world’s first Laphroaig single malt barbecue sauce, in dishes voted for in advance by Friends of Laphroaig and Facebook fans.

Maxxium UK’s marketing controller for Scotch, Johna Penman, says: "Laphroaig is the UK’s number one Islay malt, with an incredibly loyal following of more than 450,000 Friends of Laphroaig worldwide, including over 126,000 in the UK alone.

"Our interactive tastings offer fans a fantastic opportunity to be directly involved with Laphroaig and experience the brand with the expert guidance of John Campbell.

"Laphroaig Live broadcasts have been enjoyed by more than 100,000 whisky fans from over 79 countries around the world over the past five years and this year’s is set to be the biggest and most exciting yet."

Friends of Laphroaig is a growing and active community of consumers online who keep up to date on news from the distillery and engage with each other.

They are among the first to be offered the chance to try any new and limited edition whiskies and have access to discounts and offers through the online shop. In addition, they receive a lifetime lease on a square foot plot of Islay.
