Davidsons Specialist Butchers in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, proved itself a cut above the rest by first taking the award for Best Scottish Butcher at the annual awards at The Landmark Hotel in London.

It then sealed a memorable evening by beating off stiff competition from five other regional winners to claim the overall title of the UK’s best butcher.

Owner John Davidson said: “It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I’ve wanted this since before I even had a butcher’s shop.

“The win coincides with the launch of our online shop, so we are going to take the publicity forward and tell people they can now get the best meat in the UK delivered to their door.

“Being named best butcher in the UK is a great marketing tool.”

The other finalists in Best Scottish Butcher were S.Collins & Son, Glasgow and Thomas Johnston Quality Butcher of Airdrie.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, which organises the awards, said: “Davidsons is a deserving winner and a superb business, so it’s great to see John and his team getting some great recognition.

“The standards of entry into this competition are always high and this year was no exception. I’d like to congratulate all our finalists and winners.”

Andrew Brassington, of the Ludlow Food Centre in Shropshire, took the title of Young Butcher of the Year, fighting off strong competition from two other great finalists, Billy Holding and John Day, both from Scotland.

Billy was representing Henderson of Hamilton while John is from Tom Courts Quality Food in Fife.
