He takes up his new position in early 2012 after 10 years with First Milk where he held a number of senior roles spanning the commercial and operational sides of the business.

Currently executive director of First Milk’s liquid and ingredients division, McQuade also represents the co-operative on the boards of Westbury and the recently established joint venture company with Fonterra.

For McQuade, 43, his new appointment is a return to the company where he initially developed his career in the dairy industry. Prior to joining First Milk in 2002, he was milk procurement manager with East Kilbride-based Wiseman.

The move follows the decision by David Peat to look for fresh challenges after 18 years service in national accounts for Wiseman.

Billy Keane, managing director, said: "David has been a central figure during the growth and development of our business with major supermarket customers since he joined us in 1993.

"I would like to thank David for his professional contribution during the period following his resignation giving us the time to find his successor and therefore organise a smooth changeover for our customers.

"We are obviously well aware of Mark’s capabilities and pleased to welcome him back to the company. His knowledge of the sector will stand him in good stead in his new role."
