The ale, created by Belhaven Brewery and available at The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, is now on sale at its sister resort, The American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin.
Jigger Ale was crafted with input from the resort's owner, Herbert Kohler Jr, who wanted to create an ale that would be as unique as the inn alongside the Old Course's Road Hole.
General manager of the St Andrews resort, Daniel Periera, explained: "Until now, the only place where you could enjoy a pint of Jigger Ale was at the former station master’s house – best known by golfers throughout the world as The Jigger Inn – so it is a very exciting move to see it being exported to the States."
The news has created even more of a stir at the St Andrews resort as The American Club Resort has just been awarded the distinguished recognition of five stars from Forbes Travel Guide – one of only 57 hotels worldwide to earn the coveted prize.
Daniel added: "In May of this year, the ale was served with real acclaim to guests at the Kohler Festival of Beer in America – and they loved it.
"It is now on tap at The American Club and we are thrilled that customers will be able to enjoy a taste of Scotland at their resort – not only in their Horse & Plow pub but also in the clubhouses at the championship courses, Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits – home to the 2015 PGA Championship and 2020 Ryder Cup."
Antoinette Leaske, landlady at The Jigger Inn – cited in The Famous Grouse's Top 100 Pubs in the UK – is "thrilled" that the ale is proving so popular, saying: "Jigger Ale is a real favourite with our customers from all over the world – and we are delighted that it is now making waves on the other side of the Atlantic."
Shelagh Bryce, director of customer services at Belhaven Drinks, said: "We’re delighted that Jigger Ale has been slipping down so well with visitors to the Jigger Inn.
"We wish it every success with its travels across the water and hope the flavour and character of this robust Scottish beer is enjoyed as much after a round of golf out in the States as it is proving to be in its homeland."
The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, has 144 luxurious rooms including 35 suites, and borders the 17th Road Hole of the world-famous Old Course in St Andrews, the Home of Golf.
The hotel has spectacular views across the links courses to the sea, The Grampians and St Andrews.
Kohler Co. acquired the award-winning establishment in October 2004 and has since completed a comprehensive investment programme, which includes new suites by French designer Jacques Garcia and a new, state-of-the-art conference wing. The Kohler Waters Spa opened in March 2006 and is a member of the prestigious Leading Spas.
The Duke's St Andrews is a magnificent heathland masterpiece with views over the town. It reopened in the summer of 2006 following a transformation by American golf course architect Tim Liddy, protégé of Pete Dye.
Recently positioned by Golf World magazine in the UK’s top 100 courses, The Duke’s is now on many golfers "must play" lists.
