This event, organised by Sustainable Food & Drink, follows on from the success of visits to Tio and Macsween of Edinburgh in September.
Matthew Algie, independent coffee roaster based in Glasgow, has been involved in the tea and coffee trade since 1854.
With a strong ethical focus, in 1997 Matthew Algie was the first UK roaster to roast Fairtrade espresso and in 2004 it launched its ‘triple certified” espresso (Fairtrade, Organic and Rainforest Alliance).
They “know their coffee” and actively work in partnership with suppliers and clients to improve quality, drive environmental innovation and make their business more sustainable.
The Green Club visit to Matthew Algie will give you the opportunity to learn, first hand, how it:
- implemented and drove various environmental initiatives
- cut landfill waste by 50% in one year
- reduced its energy use through behaviour and process change
- uses route planning software to minimise transport costs
Food and drink manufacturers can register by completing the online registration form on the Sustainable Food & Drink website. Please note that places are allocated only to food and drink manufactures and at the host’s discretion
The Green Club evolved from Sustainable Food & Drink’s conversations with manufacturers who expressed an interest in understanding how others drew on the environmental agenda to cut costs, wastage and improve their organisation’s environmental credentials.
Green Club visits are hosted in partnership with SMAS for the benefit of Scottish food and drink manufacturers.
