The Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland Christmas party, which took place in the ballroom of Glasgow's Grand Central Hotel and was attended by over 220 guests, featured a charity auction.

All money raised throughout the event will go towards HIT Scotland's £merging Talent scholarship programme to raise aspirations and develop talent within the industry.

Previous scholars have gone behind the scenes at Michelin-starred kitchens, been awarded places at Ivy League Cornell University and at Europe's top hospitality school.

Other placements include the Disney Institute in Florida and six-star resorts in Dubai.

Stephen Murphy of Brakes Fresh Ideas, chair of the organising committee, said: "The evening was a great success. It was great to see so many people coming out to enjoy the company of fellow hospitality professionals ahead of the Christmas rush."

As well as the Grand Central Hotel, the 2011 Christmas party was supported by Gleneagles Hotel, Bibendum the wine merchant, McGhee’s Family Bakers, City of Glasgow College and Black Bottle whisky.

HIT Scotland raises money through events like the Christmas night and through the support of big names in the industry.

The 2012 Emerging Talent Conference will take place at Glasgow Science Centre on Tuesday, 7th February. The event will include speakers and workshops plus the announcement of HIT Scotland's 2012 scholars.
