Food Experts Come to Aberdeen

Members of the public will be able to raise any food-related issues that affect them at the Scottish Food Advisory Committee (SFAC) meeting on Tuesday 17 January.

Anyone with an interest in food is invited to attend and air their views on the issues that are important to them.

Topics on the agenda include:

  • FSA Foodborne Disease Strategy: Progress report and identifying the priorities for Scotland
  • Framework for Sharing Scientific Data or Funding with External Partners: Responses to the public consultation
  • FSA participation: Moratorium on Regulations for Micro and Start-up Businesses
  • Draft Commission Regulation Concerning the Use of Lactic Acid to Reduced Microbiological Surface Contamination from Bovine Carcases, Cuts and Trimmings
  • The Food Standards Agency as a UK department working in an area of devolved competence
  • Issues associated with nanotechnology in food

Dr Jim Wildgoose, SFAC Interim Chair, said: 'We want people to come along, listen to the discussion and share their views on the food-related issues that matter to them.

'The meeting is open to members of the public, food producers, retailers, local authority representatives and anyone else with an interest in food. We are committed to listening to the views of Scottish stakeholders and putting consumers first.'

The meeting will be held at the Food Standards Agency in Scotland, St Magnus House, 25 Guild Street, Aberdeen, AB11 6NJ. Registration starts at 12:45 with the meeting scheduled to run from 13:00 to 16:30.
