Jamie Stewart, Director Scottish Countryside Alliance, said during the award ceremony at Holyroodthe winner of this category has certainly achieved the criteria and much, much more. The ownershad a vision and enthusiasm that was hard to match. The judges were impressed with the detailed application and were even more so during the site visit.

The attention to detail in creating a placewhere locals and visitors alike can explore the relative solitude of the North East countryside, practice an age old trade and enjoy the delights of local fare and produce; combined with the sensitive nature of the design and construction of a building that sits in harmony within its environment has to be experienced to be believed. Formartines Visitor Centre are worthy winners.

John Cooper from Formartine’s Visitor Centre, Nr Tarves, said we were all absolutely delighted to be nominated for this award and to go on to become the Scottish Champion is testament to the hard work & passion of the whole team at Formartine's.

We have had an incredible start and adding this Countryside Alliance Award to our trophy wall alongside our ‘Gold Green Tourism Award’ is a huge honour for us. It is rewarding to have recognition of our ethos, principles andactions as we forge a path to becoming a sustainable rural business of the future. Formartine’s already has 30 full and part-time staff and has invested significantly in developing and caring for its environment and local economy. We are really just out of the starting blocks, there are lots more great things to come.
