Sodexo is one of 30 companies to receive an award at the new Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards which were held at St Paul's Cathedral earlier this month. Legendary wildlife enthusiast, actor and author, Bill Oddie hosted the new awards which, in addition to the Good Egg Awards, now includes The Good Chicken Award and The Supermarket Awards.
Sodexo Prestige is committed to using animal products that adhere to the highest standards of animal husbandry. Each year it uses around 20,000 free range (shell) eggs across its heritage business plus the use of free range liquid egg. Its heritage venues include Blenheim Palace, the West Wing at Ickworth House and Blair Castle in Scotland. Chris John, managing director for Sodexo Prestige commented: “We take pride in our home baking at these venues as this is a key part of our desire to deliver the very best products and standards for our customers and clients."
At the Scottish Government where Sodexo provides catering at eight sites across Edinburgh and Glasgow, Sodexo moved to using fresh free range eggs from September 2009.
Graham Box, managing director for Sodexo Scotland said: “For two years before switching we were offering free ranges eggs on a 'by request' basis only. We reviewed the situation and chose to make all eggs free range. In addition to the use of fresh eggs and by working closely with our nominated supply base, we also sourced free range liquid egg, and hard boiled eggs, thus ensuring that our food offer is not compromised in anyway whatsoever."
