They joined representatives from 143 thriving businesses from all corners of the UK, all winners of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, for their achievements in International Trade, Innovation or Sustainable Development.

The opportunity to meet Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family was the ultimate recognition of their commitment to enterprise and innovation.

Moray based Walkers Shortbread Ltd won an award for International Trade.

Andrew Stokes, Export Sales Manager and Alan Campbell, Export Executive, attended the Buckingham Palace reception on behalf of Walkers. They were chosen as they were instrumental in developing export sales for the company.

Jim Walker, Joint Managing Director of Walkers, said:

“We are delighted to have been honoured once again in this way and the Award is a tribute to the efforts of our hundreds of incredible staff who have put so much effort into the company for so many years.

“Our export operations are integral to the whole company and every member of staff knows that they make a contribution to the company’s export success”.

Joanna Hill, head of the Queen’s Awards Office, said:

“It was great to see  Walkers Shortbread honoured at Buckingham Palace for their hard work. These awards are not given lightly - all the winners have shown they are amongst the very best in their own industry, and the whole country.  This is a fantastic accolade which underlines the essential role of enterprise and business in our economy. I warmly congratulate them for this recognition and I wish them the very best for the future.”

Since the prestigious awards were announced on The Queen’s Birthday, 21st April, winners have been making the most of their unique status in the marketplace, where winning the award brings acknowledgment of quality of products and services by customers and competitors alike.

Winners may also display The Queen’s Award emblem on all their branding and company literature to set them apart from the rest, while many have already enjoyed a memorable day with their workforce to mark the separate presentation of their award at their company premises.

Thirteen firms in Scotland won awards, eleven for International Trade, one for Innovation, and one, the Radisson Blu Hotel in Edinburgh, for Sustainable Development.

Applications are already invited for The Queen’s Awards 2011.  Forms can be completed and submitted online at www.businesslink.gov.uk/queensawards
