New Staff App the “First of Its Kind” in the Scottish Hospitality Industry

Scottish restaurant group Kained Holdings is taking staff satisfaction to the next level with the launch of an innovative new iOS and Android app.

The new “digital hub” for Kained’s 170+ employees at nine units across the central belt will be at the centre of staff development. 

The app will be the go-to place for all things Kained, with company and trade news, online training modules and a full raft of company perks.  

There will also be a unique rewards system which gives managers the ability to award their staff ‘points’ for great performance, in real time at the click of a button, which employees  can then accumulate to redeem prizes on a monthly basis.

The concept is the brainchild of Managing Director Graham Suttle, who first launched Lebowski’s in Finnieston ten-years ago alongside business partners Mo Clark and Scott Arnot. 

The MD of the group, which now has an £8 million revenue, said: “The key to developing our business, and protect our unique approach to the industry, lies firmly in investing in our team and nurturing their development. We want to remind our team they are part of a very forward-thinking company which does things differently.  

“The app allows us to keep everyone up to date on what's happening, celebrate our success and surprise and delight everyone who wants to be part of the Kained journey.

“We want to try buck the industry's high staff turnover trend.  Everyone has their own goals and we want to be mindful of this.  Working hard at Kained can get you a place on one of our development programs or alternatively you might simply fancy a fully paid duvet day at home with pizza and a beer!  Either way we endeavour to be innovative in how we reward employees. ”

This initiative has been spearheaded by Kained’s marketing manager James Kemp, who together with David Mccall from tech development partners Newark & Lyle, has been working hard on this exciting project for the last 18 months.

The app is one of a number of initiatives the company is taking to make Kained the go to place for the best candidates in the industry. 

As part of the group’s commitment to development, Kained recently installed a fully functioning training academy for all staff above the The Finnieston Bar & Restaurant, which is one of four venues owned by the group on the now famous “Finnieston strip”. 

Managers of the group’s restaurants, which include Lebowski’s, the Crafty Pig and the newly launched Duchess of Argyle, have trialled the new system for the past two months, prior to a full roll out within the company. 

Through the app, the directors will seek feedback from staff at every level on the company, and how they can make improvements. 

At 2016’s SLTN awards, Kained Holdings added Independent Multiple Operator of The Year to its long list of awards. The group currently supports a number of charitable organisations, including The Prince's Trust, Action for Children and Yes Chef. Recently, Kained became an official partner of Glasgow Warriors.
