Designed to bring forward inspirational stories of young people driving success within the Scottish food and drink industry.

The NFU Mutual and Scotland Food & Drink Inspirational Young Person Award 2018, was launched at the Scotland Food & Drink conference in Glasgow today (Thursday), at which the focus theme was on looking ahead to ‘The World in 2030’. The award will open for applications on 1st May 2018, with the winners announced during Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight in September.

The award seeks to highlight the inspirational food and drink stories being created by those aged between 16 and 26 who own, work or study within businesses in the food and drink sector, highlighting not only the enormous contribution that young people make to Scotland’s food and drink businesses, but also the importance of the sector to the wider economy.

Brian Lochhead, Sales Development Consultant with NFU Mutual, said:

“NFU Mutual is delighted to support Scotland Food & Drink during the Year of Young People 2018, as together we seek to find inspirational young people with great food or drink stories and facilitate them to tell the world about Scottish food and drink.

“Launching today, at Scotland Food & Drink’s future-themed conference gives this award, and young people in general, the platform they deserve. I very much look forward to being able to show our appreciation for the enormous contribution that young people make to Scotland’s food and drink sector.”

James Withers, Chief Executive of Scotland Food & Drink, said:

“I am lucky enough to travel throughout Scotland, visiting some of the most inspiring food and drink enterprises there are. Many of these businesses battle challenges such as harsh weather and geographical remoteness and yet what they all share is a determination to succeed. There are so many young people behind the successes and so I hope that this new award will bring forward some truly inspirational stories of young people who are forging a future not just for themselves but for the entire Scottish food and drink industry.”
