Roehill Springs Distillery is delighted to announce that our Gin No 5 has been awarded a 1-Star Award by Great Taste, the world's largest, longest standing and most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food and drink producers.
14,113 different products were entered in 2021 from 108 countries and we were humbled to be 1 of only 4 companies in Moray to be recognised this year. Gin No 5 will now be able to display the unmistakable black and gold logo, a stamp of excellence that is recognised by retailers and consumers alike.
Here are the judges comments - "Pleasant perfumed juniper presents on the nose alongside gentle citrus. Judges felt this gin to be very smooth with a refined creamy mouthfeel and background root-sweetness. The juniper remains at the centre but interplays well with its accompanying botanicals - an interesting and refined gin with depth of flavour to enjoy."
Roehill Springs Distillery is a renovated disused building on our family-run farm and everything is done by hand on-site by husband and wife team Duncan and Shirley Morrison. We started producing gin in August 2019.
Our gins are created with passion, using only the finest quality traditional and locally foraged botanicals and our own natural spring water. To ensure that our gin is of the highest quality and amazingly smooth, we only use the 'heart' of the run; the 'heads and tails' together with the spent botanicals, are composted to spread on the land for the next years crops. Nothing is wasted.
The distillery is carbon neutral, it runs on power generated by our own wind turbine and we produce zero waste to landfill. The vast majority of our packaging is made from recycled and recyclable materials but we would also encourage our customers to reuse and repurpose when they can. We are committed to actively continue seeking out ways in which we can do even better - to be the best we can in playing our part in moving towards a more circular economy.
Master Distiller, Duncan explained: "This has made 2021 a fantastic year for Roehill Springs.
"Earlier this year, Gin No 5 was awarded a Silver Medal in the International Spirits Challenge, followed shortly afterwards by a Gold Medal in the International Wine & Spirits Competition with 96 points, one of the highest scores in Scotland; it is also a finalist in the Scottish Gin Awards for the second year running and now we have the Great Taste Award too.
"All of these awards have given us at Roehill Springs Distillery, reassurance and pride that our commitment and dedication to quality has resulted in recognition by some of the most esteemed judges in the world and that can only add credibility to our business as we strive to promote our brand to new customers. We are absolutely delighted."
